Cannabis is by far one of the most potent mind-altering substances known, and as such has always been a target for an overwhelming amount of research. In the early 90s, the treatment of chronic pain took a huge leap forward when the cannabis plant was found to be effective. Suddenly, cannabis companies were in need of marijuana seeds to grow more cannabis in order to satisfy these new customers that were using the substance for pain relief reasons. It wasn’t long before a flood of research was being carried out that all had the aim of finding out how cannabis works as a natural painkiller. Besides that, the recreational use of the plant is still widespread and steadily growing; the cannabis market seems to be flourishing. Catering to people from all walks of life, from first-timers using it to relieve their pain to long-time connoisseurs, the industry keeps coming up with new strains and tools (for example, an automatic joint roller for newbies) that can improve the quality of consumption for various purposes. Research into the plant, however, is far from completion.
In an effort to cut the time it takes to do large scale research, most pharmaceutical companies have introduced a range of synthetic cannabis compounds, as well as designer cannabinoid compounds. These compounds are cheap, have a high concentration of THC in comparison, and are much more tolerant to animal testing. These companies are also looking at other cannabis growth tips, such as preserving cannabis with resin to extract the moisture from the flowers. That is helping these companies to become more innovative. Cannabis is a natural plant, and as such will give you a more consistent, accurate, and natural reading than any synthetic drug.
10 Panel Drug Screens Without THC
With this in mind, we wanted to research the availability of a cheap drug screen that wouldn’t rely on synthetic THC to determine the presence of cannabis. Using cannabis extracts and derivatives, we found a 10 panel drug screen that requires only one solvent and can be completed in under a minute.
This drug screen was designed from the ground up to be faster than traditional drug screens, while at the same time remaining simple to use. The Technicalities of Needing to Exclude THC
Drug screening can also be confused with blood screening or lipid tests. Yet, marijuana is unique among legal substances. It requires a whole lot more precision than pharmaceuticals. It does not accumulate in the body or produce a positive test result, as measured by the protein produced by drug screens. When THC passes through the liver, it binds with a negative enzyme known as 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase. This enzyme forms cholesterol, and it is elevated in psychotic disorders and cardiovascular disease. Also, THC is excreted by fat cells, and, of course, that process produces cholesterol, too.
Ongoing Research
Scientists have discovered that two types of drug screens may not detect high levels of marijuana metabolites in the bloodstream.
Researchers from the University of Illinois at Chicago recently reported that a test for acute marijuana intoxication identified the metabolite of THC, the primary psychoactive component of the drug, with lower sensitivity than a non-psychoactive substance.
But the authors argue that these other drugs are more commonly found in samples than THC itself, and “have the potential to generate false positives.”
They’re still working out the details on this case, but marijuana compounds are often found with amphetamine or caffeine content – so drug tests might also make more false positives for those substances.
Amphetamine has a much shorter half-life than THC, while caffeine in the body takes longer to clear. So marijuana tests are likely to detect lower concentrations of amphetamine, but not necessarily the same concentration of THC.
