Communication Is Key
You likely already know that communication is key to being a good leader. Clear, concise interactions with your team will ensure that things go smoothly, especially in times of crisis. But, be sure to keep in mind the following two factors.
The first is two way communication. Making sure that you explain yourself clearly is one thing, but are you also allowing your team the freedom to explain themselves? Be certain that you are not dominating conversations, and putting your own concerns above those of everyone else. Listening is as important as talking, and if your employees feel like you have deaf ears, morale will quickly plummet.
Secondly; consider having regular meetings simply to allow everyone on the team to voice any concerns. During these meetings, you should do nothing more than sit, listen, and allow everyone the chance to speak. If they wish to do so. Also encourage your less talkative employees to express themselves, though never force them to do so.
If you are not taking responsibility when you should be, your team’s respect will rapidly turn to resentment. No matter what your profession, live betting, design, or a car mechanic, accepting responsibility for mistakes is a foundation of trust.
Your team will not expect you to be infallible, in any circumstances. You are as human as anyone else on the team, and are bound to make a few foul ups along the way. Acknowledging that you are human will earn enormous respect, and ensure that others also accept responsibility.
Discipline Is An Artform
Lastly; there is always going to be a need to discipline teammates, and it can be one of the most challenging situations that any leader encounters. How you tackle discipline will form an enormous part of how your team sees you, so going about it correctly should be a number one priority.
First; fairness is, of course, always called for. Each member of the team should be dealt with in the same way, with no favour, regardless of who you are dealing with.
Second; public discipline is never a good idea. Taking a team member aside, and calmly discussing with them how they have failed is paramount. The individual should never feel attacked, and never be humiliated. Instead, they should feel as if they are being guided to not making the same mistakes in the future.
Third; in the case of repeated offense by the same employee, serious action should be followed through on. Though, they should always be made aware that serious action will occur, if they do not change their behaviour.
